LDS Temple Travel
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is by far the most prolific builder of temples. Temples are special houses of worship reserved to perform certain ordinances and to conduct certain ceremonies and meetings. Temples and their associated ordinances are a vital part of the theology of the LDS church. Their importance is often emphasized in weekly meetings, and regular participation in temple work is strongly encouraged of all worthy Latter-day Saints. President Gordon B. Hinckley, has built over seventy temples since coming into office. Most of these are according to small, standard plans, but one particularly noteworthy achievement was the rebuilding of a temple in Nauvoo, Illinois, known as the Nauvoo Illinois Temple. Today there are 122 dedicated Latter-day Saint temples, with 11 more announced.
