Majestic royal palms line the streets of Fort Myers, a city with more than 70 varieties of palms and a profusion of exotic flowers and tropical fruit. March through early April Fort Myers is the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The Red Sox play exhibition games at City of Palms Park, 2201 Edison Ave.; phone (239) 334-4700. Another sporting option is the Florida Everblades, who play their East Coast Hockey League home games at Everblades Arena, at I-75 exit 123 (Corkscrew Road); phone (239) 948-7825. The hockey season is mid-October through April.
The City Yacht Basin area is the town's boating center. Boating is popular on the Caloosahatchee River; a tropical cruise leaves from the yacht basin regularly.
