Area Description:

Its name taken from the Santa Ana River and the German word for home, Anaheim was settled by German emigrants in 1857. They brought cuttings from their Rhineland vineyards and developed Anaheim into California's wine capital. In the late 1800s blight destroyed the vineyards, and the grape growers began growing oranges, thus beginning a new industry.

No longer a small town surrounded by orange groves, Anaheim is now a bustling metropolitan city that completed a $5 billion renovation of its resort areas in 2001. Exhibitions, concerts and sports events take place at Anaheim Convention Center on Katella Avenue. Home games for baseball's 2002 World Series Champions, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, are held in Angel Stadium; for ticket information phone (888) 796-4256. The NHL Anaheim Ducks, ice hockey's 2003 Western Conference Champions, play at Arrowhead Pond; phone (714) 704-2000 for ticket information.

The lodging tax in Anaheim is 15 percent.
